Wedding Dresses Make The Bride
Wedding
dresses are clothing fashions I have loved ever since I was a little girl. I remember sneaking into my mom's closet to take a long peak at her
wedding dress when she wasn't around. She had no problem with showing me the dress she was wed in to me. But if she had known of all the many
hours I spent wishing I could wear it, she probably would have freaked out a bit, thinking me weird. Maybe I was...
I guess had pretty childish fashion tastes back then, but hey, I was a child. I loved wedding gowns because they always look so soft and
fluffy. I used to think the clothing should be pink instead of white! They were like those perfectly iced cakes you see in shop windows. The
reception at weddings was transformed by whoever wore them. Brides look something halfway between a princess and a pastry. I just couldn't get
enough!
Back in the day when I was buying discount wedding dresses at thrift stores to wear to the school with various punk rock modifications to
shock my teachers (it really worked too!), I never dreamed that one day I would be a wedding designer. You see, as much as I loved wedding
dresses, I wasn't particularly enamored by the thought of weddings - the ceremony, the reception, bestman, bridesmaid, etc.
I was independent. I couldn't imagine spending my entire life with one "best man." The thought of raising kids, and living in a boring
suburban prison cell of a world like my parents did, really did not excite me. I wanted action and adventure. I wanted to be a mountain climber
or a park ranger, or perhaps a professional photographer. The one thing I did not want to wear the fashions of a bride.
Nonetheless, I was still impressed with bridal fashion. I loved when I got to see outdoor weddings in the local park. We lived by a gorgeous
state park complete with the rivers, lakes, and beautiful rolling hills. A small wedding chapel was there, and they would frequently rent it
out.
My boyfriend at the time must have thought I was sending him messages! I made him sit there with me all day sometimes, watching the wedding
party. Maybe he thought I had dreams of long-term romance, but those thoughts were far from my mind. I was interested in what was going on purely
from a fashion perspective.
That was years ago, and now that I am getting ready for my own wedding, I am struck by how different the experience is from that of helping
other people get ready for their big day. Designing wedding dresses is easy. It's just something that comes natural to me.
There are vintage designs, modern designs, classic designs, and lots of other variations, but it doesn't amount to all that much variety
really. There are only a couple of things to keep track of, and if you appreciate the clothes it's easy. Picking out one for yourself, however,
is altogether another matter. I reckon, for me at least, it's probably the hardest part of getting married.
